'Beel' is an Assamese word which means a naturally formed waterbody smaller than lakes or literally a smaller lake. 'Bogi' is the name of this small lake and hence the name Bogi-beel. Bogibeel also refers to a larger area comprising acluster of villages by the side of this small lake. At Bogibeel, India's longest rail - cum road bridge named the 'Bogibeel bridge' with a length of almost 5 kms is being constructed over the mighty river Brahmaputra. Bogibeel is around 15 kms towards West of Dibrugarh city.
