Kempton is a small isolated town located in the SouthWesternmost tip of Western Garrett County, Maryland. Between the years 1914 and 1950, Kempton was a booming mine town with as many as 650 residents working for the Davis Coal and Coke Company. Today, there are only a few of the company built homes left, and the town is relatively isolated from the rest of Garrett County, with the shortest route to Oakland via roads in West Virginia to US 219.
