railway, interlocking, railway bridge, swing bridge, drawbridge
Vertical-lift railroad bridge used by NJ Transit and Norfolk Southern to access South Jersey. One of the longest vertical-lift spans in the world.
Built in 1896 originally as a swing span, it was converted to a vertical-lift span in 1958-60; subsequently, the old swing span was fixed shut. The bridge was also formerly electrified, this came to an end in the early 1980s.
