Palanga was mentioned in 1161. During XV–XVII centuries settlement was the main port of Lithuania. City rights received in 1791. During 1819-1921 belonged to Latvia. In 1824 Palanga land was bought by count Tiškevičius, resort was established in 1888. Now it is claimed to be summer capital of Lithuania.
