Gatacre Hall was first built in the 18th century, and additions were made in the 19th century. At this time, the grounds of the Hall were also greatly improved. There were ornamental shrubberies and drives up to the house, and the hall was surrounded by extensive park-like grounds with a lodge about a mile north-east of the house. To the east of the hall there was also an icehouse.
