I went to Comboni(grade 1-6). My comboni friends, I dont want to offend you but I hated that school. We were only kids and a lot of us were scared because of the rules. It was under the italians, Comboni brothers at the time. I remember this kid, Samuel, his confidence was so low that he used to cry as soon as any teacher approaches his bench. The teachers,or the so called "monitors" can beat you up for just looking at the window :-). And almost all of the students I know (family members, childhood friends, relatives, neighbours)who stayed there when it became Barka secondary school, couldnt calculate a simple math problem let alone go to university. It is NOT because they were born stupid, it was a lousy school if I ask me. But I went to SANTA ANNA. That school changed my life. Mathematics, something I hated in Comboni, became fun in Santa Anna. The school, the students, the competition, the ambition to be somebody, the green/yellow uniform :-)...oh I will always remember that school. (Santa Anna`s official name was Semenawi kokeb, you could only go there if you got >85% in eth. general examination). |
