Bogura town is one of the oldest in Northern Bangladesh. It is centre of commerce and trade within the Bogura District and located under the Rajshahi Division. Bogura is described as the nerve centre of Northern Bangladesh. Amongst many notable activities, it has been hosting cricket test matches in Shaheed Chandu Stadium.

The important landmark of Bogura town are Mahasthan-garh, Bogura Nawab Bari museum and amusement park and the Akboria restaurant.

Former president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Ziaur Rahman Bir-Uttom, and Muhammad Ali Bogura a former PM of Pakistan were the illustrious sons of Bogura.

This district is famous for few foods as like as misti-doi (sweet yoghurt), kotkotee (sweet pretzel), etc. It also famous for red chilies and potatoes.

In the Bangladesh Liberation War, the area witnessed a fierce battle - Battle of Bogura.

There are numerous educational institutes. Bogura Zilla School is the most famous among them. Bogura Zilla School is situated at the centrer of the Bogura town (Saathmathha). It was established back in 1853. The Government girls' high school is popularly known as Victoria Memorial(VM) girls high school. There are some English medium schools like Millennium Scholastic School, BIAM Laboratory school, etc. It has the biggest college in the northern region of Bangladesh named Azizul Haque College. A medical college & hospital named Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, equipped with advanced facilities has been established recently.

Rivers: Jamuna, Korotua, Nagar, Bengali are the local rivers in Bogura.

Places of interest: Kherua Mosque, Mohasthan Ghar, Govindo Bhita Temple, Ramu vihar, Shah Sultan Bulkhi Maheswary tomb, Nawab Bari, Karu Palli etc.

It was one of the oldest city of Bengal in the empire of Ashoka, the great. He conquered the Bengal (Bongo) and founded this city called 'Pundra Bardhan'.
