Constructed by Defense Plant Corporation in 1942 for the American Propeller Corporation, the plant built light weight propellers out of seamless steel tubing for Hell Diver bombers during the war.After the war it was sold to Martin Parry the maker of the Rexair cleaner and conditioner and prefabricated partitioning for industrial, residential and ship construction.

In 1955 General Motors bought the factory and moved production from its Chevrolet Transmission plant on Central Avenue to Alexis Road in 1956. After a 320,000 sq. ft. expansion in 1968 and a further expansion of 500,000 sq. ft. in the 1980s the facility became part of GMs Hyrdramatic Division in 1983.
