In case you are unfamiliar with what sanctioned autocross is:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzWGwBd0DBg
Stock - your everyday, off the showroom floor vehicle. Some additional modifications permitted are:
* R (autocross) compound DOT tires
* Any type of shock
* Any exhaust from the catalytic converter back
* Any FRONT sway bar
Tire - restricts the use of R (autocross) compound DOT tires.
Street Touring - street rods with bolt on performance parts only. These are cars with after market components that are strictly bolt on only, no internal modifications to engines, trannys or differentials. Items that can be changed include:
* Any type of shock
* Springs (including lowering)
* Any bolt on engine components (non-internal in other words), including headers, carbs, bigger injectors etc.
* Wheels maximum width: 7.5"
* Tires maximum width: 225
Street Prepared - street rods with bolt on performance parts only. These are cars with after market components that are strictly bolt on only, no internal modifications to engines, trannys or differentials. Items that can be changed include:
* R (autocross) compound DOT tires
* Any type of shock
* Springs (including lowering)
* Any bolt on engine components (non-internal in other words), including headers, carbs, bigger injectors etc.
* Wheels are more open (I forget the details but I'll have them here)
Prepared - the next modification stage with internal engine modes, more radical suspensions, stripped interiors etc. Modifications include:
* Slicks are permitted
* Weight minimums are set based on engine displacement
* Wheel size is dependent on engine and class (so do check)
* More involved suspensions (coil springs), shocks and spring are
* Brakes are open (??? I believe)
* Chassis stiffening permitted (welded or bolt on)
* Engines are mostly open (internal modifications permitted) but larger displacements may require weight penalties
* Roll cages will be required (as of 96 - hoops at least)
* Tranny's and rear ends are open
* Interiors can be fully stripped
* Glass can be replaced with Lexan
* Light weight body panels are accepted
* Some sub-frame components can be removed (hood, doors etc.)
* Fuel cell required
Modified - the highest level - usually devoted to purpose built autocross cars, like Formula Fords or production based cars with engine transplants.
