The town's TV transmitter used to be located here, but got taken down due to the edge of the cliff starting to get too close to it.
On a clear day, and if you've got a decent pair of binoculars, if you stand on the roadway to the left of the marked spot you can see an extremely long way up the coast (initial guesstimates with Google Earth suggests it could've been Blyth harbour i've spotted from there in the past).
