Springfield, Massachusetts' City Hall was dedicated by President William Howard Taft in 1911 as "one of the most distinctive civic centers in the nation, and indeed, the world." It was built in the Greek Revival style and is located next to the 300 ft. Italianate Campanile.

About City Hall:

Do you believe that this architectural masterpiece was built because of a monkey? Apparently, a monkey overturned a kerosene lamp in Springfield's previous City Hall during the city's anniversary celebration, resulting in a fire that destroyed the building.

In an effort to restore the City of Springfield's civic center, architects Harvey Wiley Corbett, and F. Livingston Pell designed two Greek Revival structures to surround a 300 ft. tall Italianate Campanile. This trio is commonly referred to as the "Springfield Municipal Group." It features City Hall, the Campanile, and Springfield Symphony Hall.
