From the mid 1960s until 1994 this was a popular clothing-optional beach. By apparently informal understanding, the gays had the west half of the cove and the straights had the east half. In 1994 a large steel sign mysteriously appeared, solidly installed in concrete, stating that nudity in this thoroughly isolated cove would no longer be tolerated.
