dear jaffer, in about 1820 maharaja ranjit singh sent a contigent of 500 soldiers to assam to help the Ohm king to help him against his fight with Burma. my ancestor Fauja singh was one of them.. and he was from this village. sikhs faught the battle of Hadia chakki in dist Goalpara and were defeated. many died and few returned to panjab at their own. few about 40-50 settelled in village Chappermukh under the command of wife of chattan singh, the commander of sikh contigent who died in the battle. this lady was called Mata Ji. there is a gurdwara in chhapermukh called mata ji,s gurdwara. old small guns and swords r displayed in g,dwara. those sikhs married local rajput ladies and adopted local culture. i am the latest off spring. they r staunch sikhs. my father returned to panjabin search of education around1924 and did gratuation in law in 1930 but preferred to become teacher particularly to teach young ones from villages. it is a long story and i wont take any more space. i plan to visit padhana in april this year to check old revenue records and also part of our roots if left any in padhana. can u pl give me any feed back or contact to help me out. i am at present in australia and returning to chandigarh my permanent place on 25 march. would give me pleasure to hear from u. regards. kuldip

Dear Kuldeep, Nice to read your comments. even I myself was born in Padhana, but did my early education in Lahore, and than in the US, after graduating I bee settled in Sweden since 1967, and joined the Swedish Merchant Navy, where I retired as a Captain. But I still have immediate family members, as well as my Farmland there. I shall also be in Lahore during April, 2012, and will be good if we can meet. In the mean time I will instruct my brother as well as my office manager to get in touch with the revenue department to locate the old record (If possible), otherwise the only way will be to talk to elders of the village and get some info. My (NANKE) family from my mother side was from Narli (The village of Shaheed Baghat Singh JI) I wonder if you have any more detail about that village. My Nanaji was called by the name of Sardar KALA Singh, and he also served in the British Indian Army. You can even contact me on my direct e-mail address: jaffar@pakistancattle.com Regards Jaffar

The Padhana Sardars (Chiefs) were Sandhu Jatts, from the early 1700s to 1947 they were in power and controlled much of this area around lahore which is located in the Majha Central Punjab before 1947 but now it is known as western Punjab.
