A private house set in 4 acres of mainly oak woodland. Built 1905 by George Scott who died 14.8.1921 whilst shooting on the moors. His daughter Barbara Halliday Meek, nee Scott, lived in the house until 1967. Her son George Scott Meek then bought the house from the family and lived in the house until his death on 3.12.2008. In accordance with his will, the house was subsequently offered for public sale in 2009 and was purchased by the owners of the adjacent Drumlean Farm Estate.
The house is Grade B listed with exceptionally preserved interiors. The house was supplied with electricity by a water turbine at the foot of the hill fed from a dam behind the house. This used to get blocked by fish! The house was not connected to mains electricity until the 1980's as Barbara and George Meek were on a world tour when the area was electrified. A Lister generator was installed in the basement which supplied 240v to power sockets and charged old submarine batteries at 50v to power lighting. This system was still in use in the 1980's.
