"Argyll's Bowling Green is a group of mountains on the west side of Loch Long upward from Loch Goil. The mountains are rugged, steep, and lofty; they present a stern, savage, and sublime appearance; they look profusely cut or fissured over shoulder and summit, as if carved like statuary; and they form a magnificent object on the sky line in most of the views north westward and northward from the upper sweeps of the Frith."
