Linton Lake was formed about 1600 years ago when lava erupted from Collier Cone flowed down the Whitebranch valley and dammed Linton Creek. The lake lies at an elevation of 3600 feet above sea level. Linton Creek enters the lake on the southeast corner. Above the lake there are falls and cascades. Smaller Obsidian Creek enters on the northeast. The lake holds naturally reproducing populations of brown and brook trout. A trail from Highway 242 leads to the lake, and follows the northern shoreline.
