  • The homes cost well over $100,000 but the neighborhood is very nice. The builder favored "green" construction methods and materials. Lots of insulation and energy efficient utilities.
  • The reclamation of this eyesore into an upscale neighborhood within city limits can be seen on the map. Certainly one can bulldoze green space 30 miles from work and build the same houses, require to build and maintain all new road systems and infrastructure, then buy fuel from the middle east to get to work, but why?
  • Slag is chemically inert, so living on top of it is no big deal. Besides, it's been graded, stabilized and covered in eight feet of dirt, so it'll never be seen again. As for the houses, they're not pre-fabricated, and they're built of much higher-quality materials than any McMansion in the exurbs.
