synagogue, judaism, interesting place, 2007_construction, place of worship, tourist attraction
Consecrated in 1885, the historical synagogue building in Tallinn was destroyed during WWII. Construction of our new building began in 2005, and the synagogue was opened in 2007. The present synagogue is one of the most unusual sacral buildings in Tallinn; its acclaimed modern design is combined with traditional architectural features of a synagogue. The building is part of a complex that includes the building of Tallinn Jewish School, the Jewish Community Centre, and a museum. On the first floor, there is a hall for services seating 105 people. The floor of the prayer hall has 105 seats for men, and the balcony has 65 seats for women.
