Built circa 1956 as the Mid-Island Shopping Plaza, it was originally an open air mall, and among the first malls on Long Island. It was anchored by one department store, Gertz and two food stores, including a Food Fair. They were located at the west end of the mall. The mall also had a radio station, possibly WHLI, located in the center of the mall.
