Tarapur, is an administrative head quarter of Tarapur Taluka in Anand district of Gujarat. Tarapur was part of a kingdom, which was ruled by Nawab of Cambay (Khambhat) before India attained independence in 1947. Tarapur had agrarian economy and the land holding was with Patidar Community (Patels). Patels from Tarapur had rights to collect land revenue on behalf of Nawab of Cambay, hence they were awarded a title "Amin". Hence Patels from Tarapur use Amin as their family name. Patidar community (Amin) had migrated to Tarapur from Gurudaspur area in Punjab nearly 15 generations back during early 17 th century, they have matrimonial relations with Patels from Chh gam as well as Panch gam. The Amins donot marry within the same town as they are genticlly related to each other, and are cousins. The literecy levels amongst Amins was highest in Charotar area, in fact at one point of time one out of seven persons from every Amin family was a professional, either a Medical graduate, an Engineering graduate, a lawyer or an accountant. The village had Primary School, High School and tapped water supply since early 1900s. Amins from Tarapur are found across the world as they have migrated to various parts of the world for utilising professional skills acquired by them. The spread of education and literecy levels amongst Amins from Tarapur are quite high even today.
