The Atlantic Mills one of the most important industrial facilities in Olneyville, was constructed in the 1850s .

The first building was constructed in 1851 by General C.T. James, notable for its two domed circular towers added in separate stages in the 1860s and its granite balustrades, one cupola survives. The main building (120 Manton Avenue) constructed in 1871 and 1882 is a three-and-one-half-story brick building. Other buildings include a four-story brick mill (1871), a three-story brick mill (1893) designed by F.P. Sheldon, and a four-story brick mill (1899). In 1899, an impressive mill office and the round brick gasometer was added. The mills encompass a total of 564,338 square feet of floor space.

The buildings now house various businesses and are used by various neighborhood-based groups and artists.
