The sacred lake of the Taos people and their culture. It was taken away from them when the Carson National Forest was established in 1908. It was restored to them in 1970. It is the headwaters of Rio Pueblo, the river that flows by the Pueblo. Entrance to the area is restricted to Taos Pueblo members.

I would like to ad on a personal note, that my mother, Helen Adams who passed away on December 15, 2008 was instrumental in helping the Taos Indians regain control of their sacred lands and her incredible frienship with Juan de Jesus Romero, the then Cacique of the Pueblo will forever have been her most important relationship. Say what you will about Ricahrd Nixon, but he not only supported the Indians retaining their land, he signed it into law.
