The almshouses now renovated and restored were not built actually by Sir William Thomas but by the late Lord Bulkeley, of Baron Hill, Beaumaris, who died in 1822. The Bulkeley family at that time owned the manor of Aber. Lord Bulkeley caused the almshouses to be built in 1811 for the accommodation of three poor families who were in receipt of an annual sum from a charity founded by Sir William Thomas
