Hunt Armory was built in 1911 and honored Captain Alfred Hunt, a co-founder of Alcoa who died from malaria contracted while commanding a battery in the Spanish-American War. The Armory is used for military training and also as an auditorium; it was easily the largest auditorium in Pittsburgh until the Civic Arena opened in 1961. Notable events held here include presidential campaign visits by Harry S Truman and Dwight Eisenhower, and a Led Zeppelin (New Yardbirds) concert in 1969.
