Grade II Listed Building
Residence of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien c. 1930-1946. Tolkien moved here from 22 Northmoor Road, where he had lived 1926-1930. He wrote most, or perhaps all, of The Hobbit and the first two volumes of the Lord of the Rings while living here. The third volume was completed at 3 Manor Road, Oxford, in 1949.
