USCG Station Sand Key, originally called Station Clearwater, was established in 1975 located in nearby Clearwater, FL. Due to an overlapping logistic problems with the neighboring Air Station in Clearwater, the original station was decommissioned and Station Sand Key opened February 13, 1985.
Presently, Station Sand Key is the fourth largest multi-mission station in the 7th Coast Guard District conducting Search and Rescue, Maritime Law Enforcement,Environmental Protection and Harbor Security.
