Iturup is the largest island of the South Kuril Islands. It is the northernmost island in the southern Kuril islands and is part of Russia. Japan also claims this island.

  • I changed a bit the text so as to be more neutral. Thus 'part of Russia' instead of 'controled by Russia' and Japan claims in next sentence. Maybe Japan is right, maybe Russia is right, but wikimapia should remain neutral (after all Ainu where here first, not Japanese or Russians:))
