Church of Alatornio (Tornea - Struve Geodetic Arc)
Completed in 1797. A wooden church was standing on this site at a very early date, perhaps as early as 1208. Some parts have remained from the fifteenth-century medieval stone church. In earlier centuries the church acted as the central church for a very extensive area. The Alatornio church is part of the Struve Geodetic Arc protected as a Unesco World Heritage Site. The point
located in Alatornio church tower was measured in 1842. It was marked on the bell tower and carvings from that time are still visible on the inside walls of the bell platform.
