Established in 1987 by a finnish governmental decision as a hiking, recreation and natural management area. The area cover some 3158 hectares, including 600 hectares of water areas. Famous for its 30km long rapids, especially popular among canoers and bigger boat floaters. Also popular area for fly fishing and camping.
