  I worked at The Cyclops Works for nine years most of the steel platye was for the armoury industry, mainly fighting vehicles, Also the top of blast furnaces were bought here to be relined with very hard steel. There were several presses the largest in it,s hay day was a 12000 ton press which had one of it,s three cylinders removed and it was down graded to 8000 ton, still very powerful it could bend steel plate thre inch thick with ease. The overhead crane were a mixture of 240 volt dc and 440 volt ac, one of the cranes in the centre bay could lift 70 ton, it was one of the oldest steel works in Sheffield.
