roundabout / traffic circle  Add category

Newbury Road roundabout forms the north-western corner of the Basingstoke ring road. Originally it was only half a roundabout and you had to give way to priority traffic coming west from Newbury, which would carry on eastward without interruption. This was intended as a temporary measure and would later be replaced by the Newbury Road Trumpet Junction. This never happened and the junction was turned into a proper roundabout. The council have recently abandoned the plans for the Trumpet Junction had have sold the land to developers.
