The large, mostly submerged reef of the Banc du Geyser lies 125 km northeast from Mayotte in the Comoros Islands, 112 km southwest from the Îles Glorieuses, and 200 km off the northwestern coast of Madagascar (see panoramic image). Immediately to the west is the sunken Banc du Leven.
The emergent and awash sections of the bank form a horseshoe-shaped reef on its western side; behind this, in extending into deeper waters, the bank fans out to create a large submarine platform.
