Koviladi, historically called Thirupper nagar is the abode of Appal Rangan or Appakudathan Perumal. One among the 108 holy Vaishnavite shrines. This Perumal is credited with the mangalasasanam of both Thirumangai Alwar and Nammazhwar. This place is one among the pancha rangams(Srirangapatnam, Srirangam, Appal Rangam-Koviladi, Kudanthai-Kumbakonam, Indalur-in Mayiladuthurai). This is the place from where Swami Nammazhwar attained moksham. This place is around 8kms from kallanai and can be easily reached buses going from kallanai to Thirukkattupalli.

  • The festivals like Vaikunta Ekadasi and Panguni Uthiram are famous in this holy temple of Appala Ranganatha. The archa murthy is farly tall and handsome. One will be easily attracted towards its beauty. This place can also be reached by bus from Thanjavur/Kumbakonam/Budalur Rly Stn via Tirukkattupalli. The Divya Jnaneswar siva temple and Kottai muni (village deity)temple are also worshipped by many devotees. Recently the kumbabhishekam of Kottaikarayan (muni) was conducted in a grand manner.

The ten days Brahmothsavam of Panguni Uthiram is very famous festival in this temple. The seventh day KALYANOTHSAVAM attracts everybody around this village.The tenth day falls on the Uthiram Day when the Car is used to be pulled by all devotees around the temple. The Uthsava Moorthy is very much elegant, beautiful and handsome. Besides, the ten days PAGAL PATHU and ten days RAPATHU i.e. ten days (day time function)earlier and ten days (night time function)latter of the Vaikunta Ekadesi festival is very famous in this area. Mogini Avataram festival, a day before the Vaikunta Ekedesi, is a remarkable day function, wearing the Uthsavaoorthy ladys"s attire as Mogini. All devotees should visit this temple during their life time even at-least once and get the Blessings of Kamalavalli sametha Appala Ranganathan to attain MOKSHA.
