Operation Meghdoot:
Rimo I was the peak that started the Siachen Conflict
Pakistan gave permission to a Japanese expedition to scale it in 1984, prompted Indian anger. This lead to Operation Meghdoot(Divine messenger of the Clouds), launched on April 13, 1984 where Indian forces took control of the entire Saltoro Range including the Siachen glacier.
The India action pre-empted a Pakistani action by 4 days. By the time the Pakistanis arrived, Indian soldiers were already well entrenched on the sharply rising saltoro range. Pakistan has not been able to dislodge India from the range since.
