Source of commercial gravel for most all of Custer County at one point was pumped from the river at this location. Generations ago, W. B. Hagler owned the land and pioneered the pumping of gravel with home-made equipment and started a industry lasting many decades and still in operation today.
You can see sandy beaches here which are a result of pumping the bottom of the river for so long and flushing the sand and waste water back into the river.
