The Dissected Loess Plains contains loess (wind-blown silt) deposits that are among the thickest (200+ feet) in North America. Eroded canyons and deep valleys that occur at this site reveal the geological history of the Loess Plains better than any other place in the Great Plains. The 25,000-acre area is designated a National Natural Landmark.
