abandoned / shut down, historical layer / disappeared object, car racing track
Hosted the Belgian Grand Prix in 1972 and 1974 (both won by Emerson Fittipaldi). Considered a bland and sterile race track at the time, especially when it was considered as a replacement for Spa. It had massive runoff areas, and was flat and featureless. It was not popular amongst the paying spectators since they thought that they were not close enough to the action.
The track was closed in mid-1981, and it was abandoned until its demolition in the past few years. Only a few vestiges of the circuit and facility remain, although most of the original track layout exists as an industrial/business park.
