In 1965 Lüttingen could already look back on 1000 years of history. In 965 the Archbishop of Cologne gave the Lidron estate to his Benedictine monastery in Cologne. This is the origin of the name Lüttingen.

The most famous son of Lüttingen, of Roman origin, was taken away to the Pergamon Museum in Berlin a while ago. Replicas of the so-called Lüttingen Boy, an almost life-size Roman bronze statue, can be seen in the market place in Lüttingen, in the Roman Museum and in the Tourist Information Centre. The original is in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
