interesting place, town hall
The small town hall, situated in High Street was built in 1710 by Thomas Belasyse who was Lord of the Manor. Bears several memorial plaques: to commemorate the services of the local volunteers in the South African War of 1899-1902, the memories of five pioneers of the 1st public railway in the world, as well as to indicate the top levels of the highest local floods (those only stopped after the Tees Barrage was built).
