Dauerbach Palace (Timișoara)

Romania / Timis / Timisoara / Timișoara

Situated between Goethe and Macesilor streets the building was completed in 1913. The name is related to its owner, Georg Dauerbach, who in 1911 bought the 1240 square meters of empty property from the town hall for 250.000 crowns with the intention to build a house with apartments for rent. The ground level was occupied by the Palace Restaurant which was first ran by Henric Berger. At it's corner there is a pharmacy, which although it had several owners it's still open today. For a long time, the Palace Restaurant was renowned as being one of the most famous and elegant restaurant in Timisoara, mostly attracting young people with popular music at that time. After World War II the restaurant was closed and it's location was used as a storage space. It was re-opened in the 60's.
