HARRAR (سیالکوٹ)

Pakistan / Punjab / Sialkot / سیالکوٹ

Harar is about 150 years old village, now a part of the Sialkot Municipality. A Jat elder used to live here (now buried in main graveyard called Pir Hara) when a Mughal Prince from the ousted Delhi ruling family came here incognito and asked for refuge. The local Jat elder gave him refuge and he married here. Both developed a great respect and affection for each other so much so that they planned to merge their casts and developed a new caste called Mughal Jat. This is the caste the residents of Harar call themselves to belong now a days. The Mughal prince was simply called Mirza Sahib and is buried on the gate of Jamia Masjid.

The road from Ugoki to Sialkot Cantt (now called Wazirabad Road or Kashmir Road) was constructed by the British in 1850 when Sialkot Cantt was being established. Original Wazirabad Road constructed by Sher Shah Suri was Shahbpura Road that that goes streight to Wazirabad through Ugoki. Harar's land was disected by the new road and the original small village came to the North-West of the road.

The village has close to five thousand residents. It is one of the two largest centers of brush making industry in the area. There are several large factories in and around the village. There is a petrol pump and a CNG station in the village. Hyundai Showroom and Palace Marriage Halls are major commercial ventures in the village located on the Main Wazirabad Road.
