Danvers, MA - Danvers was settled in 1636 and originally known as Salem Village. When the village petitioned King George for a charter as a town, rather than signing the charter, it was returned signed "The King Unwilling." Instead, on June 9, 1757 the town was incorporated without the King's authorization.
Many of the accused witches in the Salem Witch Trials came from Danvers, including Rebecca Nurse.
