Peabody, MA - Settled in 1626 as part of Salem, the are was known as the Northfields, "the Farms", and Brooksby.

By 1752, the area sperated from Salem and incorporated as part of the town of Danvers and referred to as the South Parish.

On May 18, 1855 the town broke away from Danvers to become the town of South Danvers. By April 30, 1868 the community voted to changed their name to Peabody after George Peabody, a noted philanthropist. In 1916 the town was incorporated as a city.
