Cabbage Key

USA / Florida / Pineland /

This island is called Cabbage Key. It has a few vacation residences, but the primary draw of the island, other than its natural beauty and proximity to some great fishing spots, is the restaurant. The walls are covered in dollar bills taped on by customers, who leave messages and their names on them written in a black magic marker.

Rumor has it that Jimmy Buffett wrote the song Cheeseburger in Paradise after visiting Cabbage Key.

  • In the nineteen sixties there was a little sand spit off of Cabbage Key. It was called "Johnson Shoals" on a chart at one time. A tree grew there eventually and there were two large rookeries there. We boaters called it The Boomerangs due to the shape of the sand spit. It is gone now!
