Based in historic preservation, the Main Street approach was developed to save historic commercial architecture and the fabric of American communities' built environment, but has become a powerful economic development tool as well. HDCMS includes the Connecticut Avenue, 17th Street and P Street corridors for improvement and enrichment. The Main Street program is based on a comprehensive strategy of work in design, organization, promotion, and economic enhancement.
