Wakefield, MA - Settled in 1639 as part of Lynn and originally known as Lynn Village. In 1664 the area was separated from Lynn and incorporated as Reading. The region that would become Wakefield was then refered to as South Parish.

In 1812 the community sperated from Reading and was incorporated as South Reading.

In 1856 The Rattan Works was created Cyrus Wakefield to produce wicker furniture. Later known the Wakefield Rattan Company it at one point employeed over 1000 people. In 1868 when Cyrus Wakefield donated land and money for a new Town Hall, the town voted to change the name of the town to Wakefield in his honor.
