Alibag is the headquarter of Raigad (Kulaba) district in Maharashtra.
The city of Alibag gained prominence under the rule of "Darya Sarkhel" Kanhoji Angre in the 17th century who was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s famous naval chief. The city became important after the fort of Kulaba was built by Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The places you can see in and around Alibag are Kolaba Fort, Magnetic Observatory, Kanhoji Angre's residence and Samadhi and the Hirakot fort. Alibag also has a beautiful beach where you can enjoy the sunset with Kulaba Fort in the background.
Alibag can be reached from Mumbai by state/private transport buses or by ferry services from Gateway of India

  • Alibag is a coastal town and a municipal council in Raigad District in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, India. It is headquarters of the Raigad district. It is situated at, around 35 km south of Mumbai and is a popular weekend getaway for the citizens of Mumbai. It is also a popular centre for business conferences during rest of the week. Alibag is very popular with Mumbai's affluent residents. Most of them own farms and bungalows here which are often a few hundred metres from the sea shore. The town and its surrounding villages are the historic hinterland of Bene Israeli Jews. There is a Jewish synagogue in the "Israel Ali" area of the town.
