Opened in 1991 at a cost of $29 million, Vaughan Intermodal featured four 2000 foot working tracks and three 80 foot high electric cranes each capable of lifting 45 tons. It was originally designed to handle 110,000 containers annually.
Several expansions were made to handle the rapidly growing container business. A major expansion in 2001 boosted capacity by 70% to 400,000 container and trailer handlings with space for future expansion to 700,000.
