Subchaser No. 65 was a CH class Subchaser in service with the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Second World War and found herself escorting a convoy of merchant ships along the coastline of Kyushu on September 11th, 1944 when she was sighted by a lurking US Submarine.
As Subchaser No. 165 proceeded on her escort route, the USS Albacore (SS-218) moved into a firing position on the unsuspecting Japanese convoy. Lookouts on the Subchaser had little or no warning before she was struck by a single torpedo from Albacore, which sent the ship to the bottom at this location on September 11th, 1944.
