The first and grandest of a series of hunting boxes commissioned by Louis XV and designed by Gabriel c. 1750. The king directed Gabriel to design a hunting pavilion for a site equidistant between Versailles and Marly overlooking a small ravine or butte, hence the name Butard. After the Revolution, Empress Josephine owned Butard. State property, closed to the public. translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://fr....
